Sexual assault is often portrayed as a threat from strangers. In reality, it is more likely to involve someone the victim knows and trusts, making it harder to recognise danger and seek help in time.
To create a simple intervention that could disrupt this chain of events, we designed the Guardian Angel -- a discreet wearable device that provides immediate access to help when it is needed most.
Using low-energy Bluetooth technology, the device can trigger a call from the user's mobile phone, creating a natural excuse to leave an uncomfortable situation. If the threat persists, holding the button for three seconds sends an SOS message to a designated contact, complete with GPS coordinates and a map link to the user's location.
By combining technology with human behaviour, Guardian Angel empowers women with a subtle but powerful way to regain control and call for help before a situation escalates.
